School Holiday Swimming Intensives help kids stay safe in the water

During the school holidays we offer one week Learn-to-Swim swimming intensives, with one lesson per day for five days.

The one-week intensives are a great way to build on skills learnt during the term or an opportunity to come in and get a 'taste' of what the Learn-to-Swim program is like while only committing to one week.

New students are always welcome and we'd love for you to join us for the holidays. All you need to do is a FREE swim assessment so we can place swimmers in an appropriate level. Then we'll book you in!

Please see one of our friendly reception staff for more information on how you can enrol your child in this fantastic school holiday program or phone us on 6625 5370.

Intensive weeks for the January holidays are as follows:

Week 1: Monday, January 9 to Friday, January 13.

Week 2: Monday, January 16 to Saturday, January 20 (Aboriginal LTS & Survive ONLY).

Week 3: Monday, January 23 to Saturday, January 27 (Public Holiday Thursday 26th for Australia Day)

Be active, make friends and have fun at GSAC PlayZone

The Goonellabah Sports & Aquatic Centre has opened up a whole new world for parents and children with the launch of the GSAC Playzone.

The GSAC Playzone provides endless development and growth opportunities as children play and learn with safe equipment in a stimulating setting.

The program is designed and structured with the main emphasis on fun and movement, and allows children to develop many essential physical attributes such as gross motor functions, fine motor functions, balance, strength, coordination and flexibility.

All children benefit from being active every day, and physical activity keeps them fit and healthy and also benefits their social, emotional and intellectual development.

There are so many reasons why this sort of play is beneficial to children. From a health perspective, it can improve muscle and bone development, coordination and movement, improve sleeping patterns and reduce the risk of unhealthy weight gain and diabetes.

From a social perspective it encourages teamwork and leadership, and helps kids develop friendships. Emotionally, these types of play also increase confidence and happiness and improve self-esteem and the ability to manage anxiety and stress.

GSAC Playzone is suitable for children aged between 18 months to school-ready. Children aged 18 months to three years must be accompanied by a parent/carer while children aged three to school ready may attend without a parent/carer.

The emphasis at Playzone is on having a fun and productive skill development. Playzone offers casual classes for $6 and registration is $30 per family.

Session Times are as follows:

  • Monday: 9.30am
  • Wednesday: 4.30pm
  • Thursday: 9:30am

Professional cheer leading classes at GSAC

Although new to Goonellabah Sports & Aquatic Centre, Just Dance and Cheer are in their tenth year of operation with a proven track record of success.

The club's primary aim is to bring confidence and knowledge to students in a fun and safe environment. All staff are fully qualified and keen to cater to families individual needs.

Just Dance and Cheer currently offers Recreational Cheer (1 hour) and Competitive Cheer (1.5 hours). These classes involve group stunts, tumbling, jumps and dance. There is also a 30-minute class that concentrates on tumble skills only (handstands, walkovers and handsprings etc.)
