Seniors urged to embrace exercise with new Freedom Membership

Are you over 50? Would you love to increase your fitness, strength, confidence, coordination and mood? Maybe make some new friends at the same time?

We all know that exercise is good for us, but some people think that with each passing year they should try to do less and take it easy. Wrong!

SWITCH 24-hour Gym Manager Roberta O’Brien from Goonellabah Sports & Aquatic Centre says health experts advise that regular exercise for seniors offers great benefits, including extending lifespan.

“And contrary to popular belief, weakness and poor balance are actually linked to inactivity, rather than age,” she said.

“The more we move as we age, the better our quality of life, the longer we live, and the less aches and pains we feel. The absolute best things seniors can do is get moving!”

With that in mind, SWITCH 24-hour Gym is now offering a Freedom Membership for seniors for just $13 per week.

The Freedom Membership includes Group Fitness classes, Gentle Moves classes, a Walking Group, pool access and entry to the Gym from 11am to 3pm.

The reality is that gentle, regular exercise for seniors can increase your lifespan by around three to five years, reduce the risk of falls, boost overall health, and reduce the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. And just as importantly, Roberta said it’s a great way to make new friends.

“Regular exercise will help you stay physically and mentally healthy and improve your confidence and overall outlook on life,” she said.

“You’ll not only look better when you exercise, but you’ll also feel sharper, more energetic, and experience a greater sense of wellbeing. You’ll actually find that movement and exercise gives you more freedom to live well.”

Freedom Memberships are available in three, six and 12-month packages, all for $13 per week.
